I spent 36 hours Tuesday and Wednesday traveling by car, plane and waiting in airports- but Chiang Mai has been worth, and I have only been here 24 hours! My sister rented me a scooter for us to travel around the city- we went up to a mountain village today, Doi Poi. Beautiful area, the village was fun to walk around. There was a nice garden area that was incredible- notice the thicket of bamboo. Also, tourists rent traditional dress and have pictures taken in the garden. We had a massage ($10/full hour) and then went out to the night bazaar where we had dinner and got a pedicure ($16). Clearly, I have left the “mission trip” and entered the tourist phase of the trip. However, here is something to ponder: there are 37 Buddhist temples in the Old City (1.5km square) and 1 Christian church. Only 1% of Thai people identify as Christians, out of a population of 72 million. It is challenging to present the Gospel to say the least.
Now for some photos of the last 24 hours: (I have been challenged in posting pictures- you might need to scroll to see the whole picture.)

Great pictures Marsha. It sounds like you have had an amazing time in all the areas of your trip. Hope your visit with Joanne and Jens is wonderful. Tell them hello for me. Prayers for safe travels home. Love, Sandy
Thanks Sandy! I shared your greetings with Joanne and Jens. I am NOT looking forward to the airplane ride home- one leg is 5 hours of flight time and the 2nd leg is 13 hours!! Yuck. But it has been worth it…
Just caught up some more on all of your entries. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your journey with us. Praying you have a fruitful time there and enjoy the rest of your days in health (and hydration!) Looks like a very full time with lots more to share than what has been shared in these posts. We hope you will have time to share with us more when your return!
